Winter Learning Journey - Marjorie Gestring

Marjorie Gestring 1936b.jpg

Activity 2:  In 1936, a 13 year old girl named Marjorie Gestring became the youngest person to ever win an Olympic gold medal. She won the gold medal in the springboard diving competition. Imagine that you were alive in 1936 and you had the chance to interview her. On your blog, post five questions that you would like to ask the Olympic champion (if you had the chance to meet her!). Here is the 5 question to ask her if i was alive in 1936:

Who inspired you to go to the Olympics?
Were you allowed to go to the Olympic because of your age?
Were you still in school when it happens?
Who was your coach?
How long was it to practice your moves?

Hi Jane!

I like the range of questions that you have selected for your interview with Marjorie. You have chosen to ask about her inspirations, her schooling, her coaching and her training. Great idea!

If I was able to meet her I would also want to ask her what it was like to return to school after she had competed in the games. I wonder if she was treated differently by her friends and teachers...

What do you think? Would everyone have treated her exactly the same after she returned to school from competing in the game?

Cheers, Rachel
