Buddy Reading - Room 3 &4

Today, we had room 3 and 4 to come into our classroom with reading with. We choose your partners to reading with and pick a friends. This was our first time doing this but this went awesome for our first time.

Book Week - Customises

 Today and this week, we had the whole school dressed up in a costume that was related to the book that we decided to customises. So I went as Oliver that was in Close Your Pretty Eyes. We did the a parade in the hall. While the parade, we had some visitors from Tamaki College and some from Panmure Library. Some people who got to dress up did an amazing work today.

Advertising - Jane, Jessie, Pote

This is what Jessie, Pote, Eric and I for writing. We were learning about advertising and how it could persuade us to buy the product.  We had worked as a team to get the work done. For the explanation, we got given a challenge to write 25 words to say what advertising is about. What I learnt about advertising was about advertising can tell you the details but not the important details and it could make us jealous to buy because all your friends have it too.    

Attributing Images - Jane

Today, we have been learning how to attribute images by using google images. If you want to attributes this is how you do it. First you search up a person you want to look at. You go on search tools and look for a label for reuse. The reason why we have to attribute is because using the images normally is stealing but if your attribute is like say thank you to the person who design the photo. 

Maths - E- ako maths

This a screenshot that i have been doing in maths. For maths, I have been practising my skills on a website called: E- ako Maths. I have been focusing on exploring my tens and hundreds.   

Paralympics - Fundraiseing

Activity 2: It is very expensive for each of the Paralympic athletes to fly from New Zealand to Rio de Janeiro to compete.  Most athletes have to fundraise in order to make the money that they need to go on the big trip. Recently, Harvey Norman announced that they will be helping to raise funds for the New Zealand Paralympic team. What could you do to help raise funds to support our amazing Paralympic athletes? On your blog, list 2 different ways in which you, your family or friends could raise money to support the athletes.

For a fundraising, I will plan for me and my family to do a Siva in front of people to get heaps of money for the raise and to sell Sausage sizzle.

Paralympics - Day seven

Activity 1: At the first ever Paralympic Games in Rome, the athletes competed in eight sports. Cycling was one of them. For the cycling event, two people compete together as a team – one of the people has a disability and the other does not. Here is a picture of a para-cycling team from New Zealand:

At the moment the most famous para-cycling team in New Zealand is comprised of two female athletes – Emma Foy and Laura Thompson. Emma is blind but Laura is not. Together they work as an amazing team. Imagine that you were asked to compete in a tandem cycling event and you had to choose one person to compete with. Who would it be? On your blog, tell us who you would compete with and why. If it was me, I would choose my son, Aronui because he’s pretty fast and very funny. He would make me laugh as we biked along and would be very supportive and encouraging! I know that I could trust him to be a good teammate. Who would you choose?

For the Paralympics, I would choose my young brother Malosi because he is very competitive for sports, He would be focus though out the games and I would be able to trust him to be a good teammate.

Writing the end of the story - Winter Learning Journey

( STARTING STORY )IMAGINE THAT YOU ARE SITTING IN THE CROWD AT THE OPENING CEREMONIES FOR THE RIO OLYMPICS THIS AUGUST. THE CEREMONY HAS JUST STARTED AND ALL OF THE OLYMPIC ATHLETES ARE PARADING AROUND THE STADIUM IN THEIR UNIFORMS WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN…

(Ending Story) BOOM! Boom! Boom!, a gun just fired into the crowd, it shot one of the Athletes. It shot Laren Boyle. She was on the ground, people are surrounding

her. Me and my friends go and see what did happen. I saw the person who shot her but I couldn't see the person who shot her but it looked like it was somebody from the USA. I went to go and chase her but I was too late. She ran really really fast. I went to see where she went but instead I had an idea that might really work. I gathered my friends up and told them the plan. When I look up she was just standing there just blending in the the fans. I went the the person but she just vanished in thin air. She sent me a letter saying to meet me up in the changing room and to by there just myself. I went into the changing room just to talk this person for the reasons why she did it. I went close to her, it look like she was wearing a masked that look like the person from the NZ team. I went to open her masked then......

This is one of my story that i wrote about the topic that i had to relate above my story. I had to write 10 - 20 long sentences. I think this is a interesting story to write about. Today I was given a challenge to ranks these NZ Team Olympic uniform in order from 1 to 3. 

Today I had to rank these NZ Team Olympic Uniform in order from 1 to 3. To first rank #1. The reason why choose that first because of the style and look. 2nd  the reason why choose it to be #2 because it was matching and it had to sliver fern to represent New Zealand. #3 the reason why I choose it last because it looked like it was too ugly (no offence) but it had to have the silver fern to represent New Zealand.

Winter Learning Journey - Marjorie Gestring

Activity 2:  In 1936, a 13 year old girl named Marjorie Gestring became the youngest person to ever win an Olympic gold medal. She won the gold medal in the springboard diving competition. Imagine that you were alive in 1936 and you had the chance to interview her. On your blog, post five questions that you would like to ask the Olympic champion (if you had the chance to meet her!). Winter Learning Journey - Eddie the Eagle

This is movie is about Eddie the Eagle who is trying to be the best he can to ski at the Winter Olympics. He always believed in himself to be in the Olympics but everyone he knew thought he was joking around but he was really serious about the skiing. I think I would recommend that movie to everyone because it's about believing that he can do and he will do it.   

Winter Learning Journey - Laren Boyle

This is Lauren Boyle. She is going to Rio to compete in the Olympic Game. For the Olympics, she the a swimmer for the New Zealand team. Lauren is New Zealand's most successful swimmer, winning five of the country's 10 medals ever won at the FINA World Championships. I would like to meet her because swimming is my favourite sport and I would like to know more tips and tricks.

This is Valerie Adam. She is going to Rio to compete in the Olympic Games. Valerie competes for Pakuranga Athletic Club has been coached by Jean-Pierre Egger since 2010. She has been a shot putter for the New Zealand team. In 2009 to 2014 she was ranked the 1st in the world, Wow!.

Winter Learning Journey - Handball

This is Handball. Handball is one of the Olympic games. The aim of two team of seven players pass the ball hand to hand and attempt to score by throwing it into the other team's goal, the team with the highest score at the end of the game wins. The two are of playing hand ball is team handball is played with a 32-panel leather ball. For women, the ball is 54 to 56 centimeters and 325 to 400 grams. For men, it is 58 to 60 ce ntimeters and 425 to 475 grams and Player numbers are 1 to 20. Uniform shirts and shorts are the same color. The goalkeeper must wear a different color shirt from teammates and opponents. No jewelry is allowed.

Winter Learning Journey - Tom and Vinicius Episode #3

Today I have been watching Tom and Vinicius. This is about when they meet three beauitful girl wanted to take a photo of Tom and Vinicius but they kept on telling then to move back. But when Tom and Vinicius kept on listening to them, Tom and Vinicius fell from a tall cliff. When they landed, Tom and Vinicius saw them rowing to another land. Tom and Vinicius followed them. Tom and Vinicius and the 3 beauitful girl went a bridge to celebrate. Tom had a great idea to get a jar of fire fly to light up the bridge so it can colourful.

Today I watched Tom and Vinicius episode #2.  This is about when Tom and Vinicius starting to build their own houses to sleep in. They kept on finding something to sleep in but it didn't work out to be their best house. So their decided to build their house to be comfortable but when they started to go to sleep it felt so uncomfortable they slept like how they normally sleep.

Today I been watching Tom and Vinicius. This is episode is about Tom and Vinicius got along and how they became friends very fast. When they first meet, they just became friends in a click of a finger. This happens when you think someone new and thought you are not gonna get along but when you meet the new person you just became friends of the just of their personality.

In the Ancient Olympic Games, Mens were allowed to compete each other in every events but for Womens they weren't allowed because Men's thought that Women's/Girls can't do this or that? That rule wan't fear to the Women's because in the olden days the Women's were like the Men's Slaves. Out of those choices is Running, the reason why is because i running and plus running is most in every sport. I have done running because you get three choices to to your challenge. Leadership Week

On Thursday, We had Lynne Le Gros from spark. She came into to LS2 to talk about leadership week and to let us know that it was Sir Peter Blake Trust week. In that session, Lynne was talking about the role model leaders with the reason why. Mine was Nelson Mandela because he was fighting for his culture and his own rights. Lynne give us a card to write down our dream of what we wanted to be and write down what we wanted New Zealand to be like. I would like to say thank you to Lynne Le Gros for giving us the Spark gift bags.

Orienteering - P.E Sport

Today, we had another sport of orienteering. I was really tired from getting other post to other post. In my thoughts I wouldn't be representing my team or school because I'm not fast runner as other players. I played by myself because i wanted to challenge my self for this occasion. At the end, my time was 25:30. I think I really need to improve my time next I do orienteering. Think this was really fun to do. I consider this sport to many other sports players to challenge them self's to do this. Are you up for this??

Life Education - Learning with Harold

For the past few days, we have been going to Life Education. We have been learning about making great choices but not good ones. Making choice can turn good and bad turns. It goes to peer pressure into bullying. We have also talking about what our body reacts to emotions and feelings.  

Get Wise With Jeremy

On Tuesday, We had Jeremy from ASB get wise come in to our school to talk to us about saving our money and what we can do and what we can't do with money. He gave us really good advice that will help us think about the path ways we would take. Crossroad choices mean that there are two pathways, there is the easy paths and the hard paths. You can also earn money by chores, neighbourhood jobs, and sell & trade. 

Whenever you earn money spend a little on you ans save some too.

Comprehension Skills - Reading

We have been practising using and applying our comprehension skills in online challenges. I have playing a game called Trapped. I have been using the knowledge to understanding the books to move to upper level. Author Purpose means to Inform, Entertain, and Persuade in other words PIE. 

Writing

Today, I have done a postcard about a myth about a sneaky dentist who tries to get into the Guinness Book of World Records. I have written a myth that we had to complete from a website, who have decided for me to write this topic. We had to choose a topic what we were happy with and have a decided what format we decided to write on. We had to draw a something that was related to the topic

Life Education

Today, All the Year 8 went to visit Life Education. Nicole (Life Ed teacher) was talking about how our body react to different many things and how our heart react to our blood pressure and low blood pressure. We learnt how our body systems work and how our brain reacts to messages from all over our body. The body system work like nervous - Nerves/ Reaction, Circulatory - Blood, Muscular - Muscles and our Five senses. That's why it is good to understand how our body system works.
